12 Famous People

Caricatures, my weakness. This assignment was good practice, though. I think. Lots of hybrids between realistic and caricature, at various degrees. Then for the last two, I did minimalistic cartoon caricatures with simple lines. Either way, see if you can recognize some of these faces.

Yay for large scanner!

Respectively: Robin William, Albert Einstein, Robert Downey, Jim Carrey, George Washington, Elvis Presley, Barack Obama, Bruce Lee, King Arthur, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Jones, Stan Lee

1000 Heads, Updated

"sigh. I tried to organize these, even via html.. but in the end, I figured it's just not worth the trouble. So, anyways.. here are my hundred heads. As expected, the first few ten heads are the most time consuming, and then the rest.. you just want to get through them with whatever method, as long as it's fast (and furious). Naturally I started drawing the heads realistically, as is; then I attempted a cartooney style and then caricature.. but they were all just hybrids.

EDIT: Updated.

SF Cartoon Museum

Today my class went to the Cartoon Museum in SF. I got to fill up my sketchbook by a number of pages, but more importantly I got to draw, draw, draw. And I came to realize, in practice, that loosely sketching out the mass of the subject first helped a lot with accuracy. Great galleries. below are my sketches, basically copies. Fun day, but who knew that holding a sketchbook with one arm while standing and sketching, demands much bicep strength and endurance!! It was hectic sketching at first, trying to keep in pace with the class, but then everyone left and I got to draw more thoughtfully and to my liking; both experiences have their pluses.

One of the drawings I liked most is this silly one, by Vanessa Davis, that was part of a comic on how to make a salad, I think:

Stewart Tartan Piper

Many a times when I am outside, I see something and wish I had my sketchbook with me. And pencils and eraser and pencil sharpener, etc. One friday was such, where I watched the Stewart Tartan Pipes & Drums perform at a small church. Great performance and great $3000 uniforms. Wished I had brought my sketchbook, and the pipers would have a large cardboard hanging on their necks saying "Yes, we allow you to draw us. Go ahead." So, I burned the details to my mind and drew this from memory.. on my hard-bound sketchbook, so there's a gap creeping in... but, you get the picture.

Painted Shoe Model

Did this for my sculpturing class, my everyday Costco shoe.
lol @ the color difference. I painted the table too ;)

Upcoming, Walking Cycle

Here's a character concept. She doesn't have a name yet, and she'll be trained to walk, and eventually do more. This is only a rough sketch, to be refined further over time. Inspired by Mirror's Edge.

Wedding Proposal

Here's a concept of a wedding proposal, for a possible commission but it did not make it. Not really much of a caricature. Yup, Lake Tahoe.

Maybe I should make a finished version, nonetheless.  For my sake of practice.

Congratulations to Mr. Tamim and  Ms. Elizabeth.

Class Clowns

These are some of my classmates and teacher in clown form. With Hani and Lucio at the top, and Sarah(?) and King Arthur at the bottom as supposedly evil clowns.

Anime-Self

~ chiwaasu!

To draw myself as an anime character, with animal like characteristic -- and, what. Oh, and either of younger or older age *coff* ...was thy command given me.

P.S. the scanner has an issue with my drawings inked with fine Micron pens, so b&w scans have either too thin or too thick of an outline. So I'm letting the seductive loose lines be.

EDIT: came around to coloring this, with Prismacolor pencils. I almost forgot the charcoal-like nature of Prisma that demands to be mixed together. Still, the effect on the sweater is pretty neat. The outcome is ok, 還可以了, the best being the tail. But I got to pick up the medium again and experiment. Some of the color got lost when the drawing got pixelated. (I'm not wearing lipstick, btw)

mini Comic

This is my mini comic. Had a major artist block, so I did some searching until i came across the idea of "antique shop", which reminded me of the Jackie Chan Adventures series. My comic has nothing to do with the series, however, and I think it's my very first comic. Start from the 2nd frame, moving from left to right, then in the end teleport to the very first frame at the top. One mo' thing! Enjoy~

A thought just came to me... everyone in my class had to make a comic like this one, and each of us will get a copy of each other's work. If there are 20 students (and the count is more than that)... that's 20 x 20.. 400 pages! Oh my. =X

this time your heart said it's had enough
sick and tired of everything that's so messed up
you don't want to move on just playing games
praying hard somehow that your life would change
when you feel like you don't know what to do
stuck inside this maze you can't go through

don't give up, help is surely on its way
